Managing Pain

Relieve pain and regain your freedom.

What is Healthy Ageing?

Helping You Move with Ease, Comfort, and Confidence

Pain happens for countless numbers of reasons – from medical conditions to sports injuries. It can be short lived, stay for what feels like forever, come in episodes, be mild or very severe…it is as variable as the things that cause it. Pain can be very disruptive to life. A tailored approach to physical activity and exercise can help people suffering with pain to regain their ability to do what they value. This can involve physiotherapy treatment interventions that aim to decrease pain, exercise to decrease symptoms and prevent recurrence and/ or exercise to maintain wellness and the ability to function, despite pain.

THE APPROACH

Tailored to your Needs

Advice is given on the best way forward for you, based on the findings and discussion on your initial assessment.

The nature of your exercise programme will depend on your individual needs. Most people, however, will start some form of programme – it could be rehab level, pain relieving or something more comprehensive. You will learn exercises in the clinic and have a video and text version of your exercises to work on at home. You can keep in touch by email as needed when you are working for a period at home.

This will depend on how your pain is responding to and tolerating treatment. Different reasons for pain require follow up – this is decided on a case-by-case basis.

Exercise should always be progressed at the appropriate pace. If you initially have an exercise programme to manage pain, in time this will progress to being a programme to prevent recurrence.

I’ve required extensive physiotherapy due to a life a chronic injuries/illness from complex Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and for rehabilitation after 12 surgeries (4 on my spine) over the last 8 years. It’s been a challenging path. Sinead supported me through all of this. I continue to strengthen by taking her classes and following a goal-oriented plan we co-created. I need motivation and focus, which I get from participating in her classes. Sinead explains all exercises in relationship to our daily activities – with a special interest to keep us active as we age. As I deconditioned, Sinead as placed me...
